The Anticipated Movie That I Mistakenly Read The Spoiler

If you could erase one movie from your memory and watch it again for the first time, which one would it be?

When I was a movie blogger, I watch more and more movies. Even more romantic comedies, one of the genre I love. Then came Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), which everybody loved back then.

Emma Stone, the leading actress was a rising star back then. Ryan Gosling who played her potential love interest was already famous, even before playing Ken in Barbie (2023) and Drive (2011), which I love. Reading the plot and the actors played in it made me even more anticipating the movie.

Keep in mind, back then it was hard to watch new releases because the theaters tend to put potentially blockbuster movies more than others. So I was feeling helpless reading other people’s reaction to it.

The duo later starred in two movies together after Crazy, Stupid, Love. I only watched La La Land. It was said that Stone was cast because it was hard to find actress who wasn’t intimidated by Gosling

One mistake I took was reading another movie blogger’s review, who wrote the spoiler (without warning!) in his blog. So after that watching the movie later made the experience more sour, though I was entertained with their performances.

I should’ve just skip reading it. But perhaps it wasn’t the best romantic comedy movie I ever watch anyway. Won’t top Jerry Maguire or 500 Days of Summer anyways. I guess you could categorized it as one of the comfort movies.

Perhaps I didn’t like the puppy love stories in the plot. I guess the purity of the child’s love confession was between adorable and a bit creepy (there, I said it!).

Anyway, after this incident happened, I never seriously read reviews on movies I anticipated. I fear it will happen again. I’ll just skim and read the conclusion at the end of someone’s blog review.

Let this be a lesson for writers and blogger, or anybody who writes reviews: always put a text warning on the paragraph where you write a spoiler.

What about you? Any movies that you wish you could watch without knowing the spoiler?
